UX + Service Designer

Role

1 year

Timeline

I had an amazing experience working on UX + Service Design for British Petroleum (BP), and INEOS through Wipro Technologies over Summer'21 - Spring'22. My primary focus was on utilizing user data to inform and enhance the design and functionality of our business applications and home-grown systems. This involved carefully analyzing business user's interactions and feedback to identify areas for improvement and then leveraging these insights to create more intuitive and user-friendly experiences. My role required a deep understanding of both the technical aspects of system design and the human elements of user experience, enabling me to bridge the gap between the two and deliver solutions that were not only technically sound but also highly engaging and satisfying for business. While I can't share my work due to NDA, I would be happy to discuss my experience and learnings with you personally!  Feel free to reach out!

Overview

UX position at Wipro Technologies

**NDA Project**

Desiging in two languages: Since INEOS is based in Europe, most of the employees were located in Rotterdam, Germany, and Belgium, and prefer content in German. Having to design for both languages was a big learning from this project, as the German language varied from English, a lot. There was a difference considering character count, symbols, content design, sentence lengths, and the different design norms between the two English languages.
From this, I learned to be accountable for different edge cases and multiple design scenarios and prompts for each language.

UX Reflection

1. Something new I learned 📚

As a designer who was very new to the field, I didn't know everything. I realized that reaching out to users and experts for different perspectives was helpful a lot to creating a more holistic solution. Throughout the project, I've learned the importance of being flexible and knowing when to pivot during the project's duration. There's no one-size-fits-all solution, so I embraced the freedom to explore ideas and embrace the potential for mistakes as valuable learning opportunities.

2. My biggest challenge 🚀

Automating the Flow of Similar Requests and Decreasing Response Times: One of the most significant areas of learning was automating the flow of similar requests and decreasing response times for a large team. This involved not only technical expertise in automating processes but also a deep understanding of how to manage and streamline work across multiple task management platforms like Kanban board, ServiceNow, Mira, Asana, and DevOps, and also multiple teams and understanding their work. The challenge was to integrate these diverse systems into a cohesive, efficient workflow, which taught me valuable lessons in systems integration and operational efficiency.

Service Design Reflection

1. Something new I learned 📚

The most challenging task in my role was to streamline the communication between two critical virtual machines, essential for our business operations. These machines were facing issues with data synchronization, which was affecting daily workflows significantly for the site managers directly impacting business efficiency and leading to financial losses. My responsibility involved navigating through complex technicalities like configuring firewall ports and fine-tuning inbound and outbound connections. The multifaceted nature of this problem demanded not only technical expertise in ensuring robust and secure data exchange but also a deep appreciation of how these integrations impacted user experience. Overcoming this challenge enhanced my skills in creating holistic, user-centric solutions, and honed my ability to navigate and resolve complex system integration issues in a high-stakes business environment.

2. My biggest challenge 🚀

Since this is an NDA Project, I can't talk about the work I did for the clients! But I would love to talk about the experience and how it influenced me to pursue my Master's in Human-Computer Interaction!!
